Myth:  Hydraulic fracturing is an unproven, new technology and contaminates groundwater.

Fact:  Low-volume hydraulic fracturing has been in use in New York since the 1950’s.  According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), which regulates oil and natural gas drilling in New York: “No known instances of groundwater contamination have occurred from previous horizontal drilling or hydraulic fracturing projects in New York State.”
